The Sleep Medicine Centre is a specialised workplace operating within the Mental Rehabilitation Centre in Beroun. It focuses on most disorders affecting sleep and sleep behaviour.
For adult patients who have problems with insomnia, sleep apnoea or unusual sleep movements. Patients need to be seen by their GP or outpatient specialist before making an appointment to rule out any other origin of sleep problems.
The Sleep Medicine Centre is located in the premises of the Mental Rehabilitation Centre, which is located on the premises of the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital, specifically in Building S.
We treat most sleep-related problems such as sleep disorders and sleep rhythms, snoring, sleep apnea, parasomnias, nightmares, sleepwalking, bruxism and more.
Healthcare is covered by public health insurance.
The Sleep Medicine Centre has a contract with all Czech health insurance companies except the Czech Industrial Health Insurance Company and the Škoda Employee Insurance Company.
We are glad that you are interested in treatment at our facility. However, you must first discuss your health concerns with an outpatient specialist or practitioner. If your physician assesses that treatment at the Sleep Medicine Center is appropriate for you, they will issue a referral for you to make an appointment.
Use the Mental Rehabilitation Centre order form, which can be found at this link.
A referral from a GP or outpatient doctor is required for treatment at the Sleep Medicine Centre. In addition, proof of identity will be required. All the necessary information will be given to you by reception when you make your appointment.
The main areas of treatment at the Sleep Medicine Centre are the treatment of insomnia, sleep apnoea and unusual sleep behaviour. We combine pharmacological and non-pharmacological (neurostimulation, inpatient) types of treatment during these.
Yes.
Acute short-term insomnia is not in itself a reason for treatment. However, if sleep problems last for more than three weeks, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
The Sleep Medicine Centre combines non-pharmacological treatments (which include, for example, psychotherapy or neurostimulation) and classical pharmacological treatments. We combine all types of treatment to best suit the individual patient's difficulties.
The application of the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy involves identifying and changing negative thoughts and habits that interfere with sleep. During the process, patients learn proper mental and physical habits to help improve sleep hygiene.
Yes. Appointments to the Sleep Medicine Centre can only be made with a referral from a GP or outpatient specialist.
The basis is an interview with one of our specialists, possibly supplemented by special examination methods (it can be EEG, polymnography, polysomnography or morphological examination) according to the specifics of the patient's problems.
These are nightmares or scares that can be a manifestation of parasomnia. If they last for more than three weeks or prevent you from getting a good night's rest, it is advisable to see a doctor.
Involuntary movements of the limbs during falling asleep or sleeping or the compulsive need to move belong to a wide group of problems that can prevent good quality sleep and which we treat at the Centre. If they last longer than three weeks or prevent you from getting quality rest, it is advisable to see a doctor.
Yes, by interfering with the uninterrupted flow of sleep, they indirectly cause additional difficulties related to insufficient rest.
Unusual movements in sleep are situations during which there is spontaneous movement of the limbs and which can occur during all stages of sleep. By having to move constantly, a person is unable to get proper rest. At the moment when these movements disturb the quality of sleep for a long time and prevent adequate sleep, it is advisable to visit a specialist.
Yes, at the Sleep Medicine Center we deal with all types of unusual sleep behaviors, whether it is sleepwalking, sleep movements or nightmares.
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition in which a person experiences discomfort in the legs (sometimes even in the hands), especially in the evening or at rest, and has an urge to move them. These sensations usually subside after movement. Conversely, periodic limb movements (PLMS) are involuntary twitches of the legs or arms that occur repeatedly during sleep and are often without the person being aware of them. However, both disorders can occur together.
The first step is always an interview with your doctor to discuss what your specific problems are and how they manifest themselves, and what your sleeping habits are. Based on this, your doctor will send you for further tests to help with a specific diagnosis. This may include an EEG or polysomnography, for example.
Yes, but it is not a condition. For example, restless legs syndrome is sometimes associated with iron deficiency, kidney disease or diabetes. Periodic movements of the limbs often occur in the elderly or in patients with neurological diseases. In some cases, however, they can be a separate disorder without a clear cause. That's why at the Sleep Medicine Center we perform a comprehensive examination to detect any additional problems.
